SEO copywriting: words that convert

What is SEO copywriting? How much can it impact on generating traffic to a website, blog, landing page? How can you reach the highest rank in search engines?

If you ever asked yourself these questions before reading this article, it means that my SEO copy strategy is working. Because that's what it is all about - effective SEO copywriting means knowing how to anticipate the users’ questions. It means foreseeing what they will search on Google or other search engines and being there to answer what they’re looking for.

How to write contents for people and optimized for Google? By using our Human to Human (H2H) approach.

It means that if you want to choose the right words that will appeal to the people you want to reach - by giving them the answer what they're looking for - you must focus on them and listen to them. 'Cause I think that SEO Copywriting isn't complicate once you understand that people come first before search math formulas.

A SEO strategy can be defined as effective when:

  • appeal to end users
  • solve a particular problem

"The best place to hide a body is page 2 of Google search results"

This quote summarize the goal of a SEO Copywriting activity: be in the first page on Google search results!

What is SEO copywriting?

SEO Copywriting is the sum of all the activities that contribute to how much google and search engines like you. SEO Copywriting stands for Search Engine Optimization Copywriting and is the ability to write content that is able to rank your page among the top search results in Google. There is no secret algorithm for this: you just need to know the right words and follow some simple rules, as below.

#1: CHOOSE THE RIGHT KEYWORDS

The first thing to do before you start writing is keywords research - in order to list the keywords and keyphrases which you want to rank for.

This is a fundamental activity in SEO Copywriting because Google determines the relevance of you page by analyzing its content based on several factors, including where and how often you use certain words in your article.

A tip: streamline your content in a few selected keywords: repeating them naturally within the text will help you climb up rankings in Google.  Avoid words that are too long or complex - mobile display is merciless!

#2 - GO STRAIGHT TO THE POINT

  • Don't use elaborate words or concepts.
  • Get your message across straightaway.
  • In order to win the attention of your reader and Googlebot, you have a very short space of manoeuvre: two lines at most!

#3: MICRO COPY, MAXI RESULTS

Synthesis is a word you must always keep in mind in SEO Copywriting.

  • Organize your text into paragraphs for easy reading
  • Focus on titles and calls to action
  • Use bold for the more relevant concepts

Most readers suffer from laziness and too long a text may scare them. The result? They’ll drop your page.

#4: USE BULLET POINTS

For the same reason, bullet points are vey useful:

  1. They help to break out the text (synthesis)
  2. They create rhythm
  3. They are easier to read

The structure you want to give to your text is a very important event in SEO Strategy - it is one of the first thing you must think before you start writing.

#5: FROM SEO TO CONTEXT MARKETING

To deliver the right message, to the right person, via the right medium at the right time start by asking yourself what questions the users you're addressing might ask themselves, what they might be interested in, and give them your solution.

BE THERE

Anticipate the micro-moments for your target audience, and commit to being there to help when those moments occur.

BE USEFUL

Provide a digital experience that's relevant to consumers' need in the moment and quickly connect people to the answers they're looking for.

BE ACCOUNTABLE

Create a seamless customer experience across screens and channels, and measure the collective impact across them, too.

#6: QUOTE, QUOTE, AND HAVE YOURSELF QUOTED

Technically, it means using backlinks and link building. Both internal and external links are very important! In other terms, it means:

  1. Quote other sources/pages within your own website (remember Wikipedia?)
  2. Add Digital PR, infiltration and relaunch activities for your social content. Basically you’ll need to get authoritative sources in your industry talk about your page.

Because Google display web pages in their search results based on authority which is measured by the number of links pointing to that page and how trustworthy those links are.

#7: LOOKS MATTER

This might sound surprising, but in order to make SEO copywriting effective you’ll also need to let videos and images talk. How many times you've landed on a web page from an image?

#8: WORK WITH A REAL PROFESSIONAL!

Every SEO Copywriting activity must be seen as a means not an end.

What is the point in having a well-indexed page if no user is encouraged to visit it ‘cause your content sucks?

In order to turn your content into relevant, useful and original topics, a good SEO strategy won’t be enough without a good, professional copywriter. So write me!
